Traceability Matrix
End-to-end traceability linking business objectives → requirements → test cases. Ensures all objectives are covered.
AI in this module
How AI suggestions work
Click "Get AI Suggestions" to have the AI build the matrix in one pass. Unlike most modules, this one is explicitly grounded in real data pulled from elsewhere in this DRP: the requirements actually linked to this DRP (by their real reference — the permanent REQ- one where it has been given, otherwise the temporary REQ-TMP- one), Business Objectives' current content, and Test Cases' current content — not just general AI Knowledgebase search.
A requirement with no test case yet, or an objective with no requirement tracing to it, is called out in the Notes / Gap column rather than hidden — that's the whole point of the matrix. Fill in Test Cases first if you want fewer gaps to show up here.
Quality checks
What "Check Quality" looks for here
Every ID is real. Cross-checks each Requirement and Test Case ID against this DRP's real records, flagging anything fabricated.
Gaps are visible. Flags a missing Notes / Gap entry where a link is genuinely absent — the whole point of the matrix.
What it captures
End-to-end traceability chaining Business Objectives → Requirements → Test Cases in one table, so every objective's coverage — and any gap in it — is visible at a glance.
Using this module
This module is a single table: one row per requirement, showing the Objective it serves, its own Requirement ID and a short summary of it, the Test Case ID that verifies it, that test's current status, and a Notes / Gap column for anything not yet linked.
- 1Get the most out of this module once Business Objectives, the requirements linked to this DRP, and Test Cases are all reasonably complete — it references real data from all three, not invented placeholders.
- 2Use "+ Add row" to add an entry, and the ✕ on a row to remove one.
- 3Leave a cell blank rather than guess a link that isn't real — an accurate gap is more useful than a fabricated connection.
Review and approval
Reviewed as a whole, when its review level is Module-level: its reviewers and approver cover the entire matrix, assigned from the project's Modules tab, or overridden on this DRP's Review Assignments tab. Once submitted it is read-only, and changing it means pressing "Reopen to edit", which cancels the round — so it is worth building the matrix once, near the end, rather than submitting it while requirements and test cases are still moving.
Tips
- "Export CSV", at the top of the page, downloads this table as a spreadsheet file — handy for sharing it with someone who works in Excel.
- Regenerate this after adding or approving new requirements or test cases — it only reflects what existed in the DRP at generation time.
- A thin or gap-heavy matrix is a real signal, not a drafting failure — it usually means Test Cases or the linked Requirements still need work, not the Traceability Matrix module itself.
