Bring Your Own AI Key (BYOK)
Power AI suggestions with your organisation's own Gemini API key instead of Requio's managed key — for enterprise governance and direct provider ownership.
Two ways to power AI
From Workspace Settings, a Workspace Admin chooses how the workspace powers AI suggestions:
- Requio-Managed AI Access — the fastest path to get started, using a key centrally managed by Requio. Enabled automatically for workspaces created through self-serve registration, so AI suggestions work immediately with no setup step.
- Bring Your Own Gemini Key (BYOK) — use your own organisation's Gemini API key instead, so AI usage runs entirely through a key your organisation controls and pays for directly.
BYOK requires the Pro plan or above. On lower plans the option is shown but disabled, with a link to upgrade.
Setting up your own key
Switching to BYOK reveals a field to enter your Gemini API key. Before saving, you can use Validate Key to confirm it works. Entering a new key while one is already saved rotates it — the previous key is replaced once you save.
Workspace Settings shows the effective key source in use at all times — Tenant key, Requio key, or No key configured — along with when it was last updated, so it's always clear which key is actually serving AI requests.
If BYOK is switched on but no tenant key has been saved yet, AI suggestions will fail until a key is added — Workspace Settings flags this clearly until it's resolved.
